Jason Nuttall’s film

Jason can track his creative passion back to childhood, shaped by the weekly visit to Blockbusters in Heywood to select a family movie. His love for film and stories has been a thread that's run through his life since.

Also, his father was a professional artist and one of the first people in the UK to use Photoshop, and let Jason play around with it in his early teens. This early exposure to computer-aided art set the ball rolling for a now fourteen-year career as a visual effects and animation artist working his way from a small shoe advert through to game trailers, TV and Netflix shows, and now feature-length films.

As a child Jason had a natural gift for maths, but when it came to a career, he says, "I didn't want to be having a job at the end where I'd be just sat writing lines and lines of code all day. I thought that's going to get really dull, really fast ." He chose to study Special FX at Bolton University and found he could combine his gift for logic with an artistic pursuit , using his "technical side of the brain" to make something he could "creatively show and be proud of". It's a pursuit he's dedicated a lot of time to.

People often comment, "Oh man, you're so talented with your art" , and Jason responds, "Oh no, I don't have that. This is obsession of trying to learn how to be good at this thing".

Having now worked with directors and production companies, and knowing what it takes to get an idea from concept through to fruition , Jason is keen to explore "getting my own stories told and having creative control over an entire project". He acknowledges that it's "probably not going to be so much professionally getting paid to create a piece of work that's probably going to have to be there on the side, but I want to start making more of my own things".

Inspired by a friend, he specifically wants to use his visual medium to tackle important themes. "I feel like I could add a big visual element to telling a story of inequality," he says , adding that he wants to "try and do a little bit of putting something positive into the world"
